Host a Canned Food Drive

Tip of the Week
We're in the midst of the holiday season, which means it's a perfect time to use your business to create goodwill.  One of the easiest ways to do this is to host a canned food drive.  Choose a weekday that is typically slow, and offer free attractions or discounted entry if guests bring two canned food items.  Then, donate all of those items to a local food shelter.

This event can impact your business and community in multiple ways.  First, it shows that you care about helping others, especially during the holiday season.  This improves your image and creates a sense of camaraderie with your customers.  Plus, with the additional food from your event, local food pantries will be able to provide help to more families during the cold winter months.  Prior to the event, you'll be able to contact your local newspaper or TV station for press coverage.  This will help get the word out and increase the success of the canned food drive.

Feel free to get creative, as you don't need to limit this only to food.  Let people bring wrapped presents or even winter clothing like hats and gloves.  Events like this will bring traffic into your door when you would otherwise be slow, but that's not the point.  Don't host this event purely for the press coverage or the additional traffic.  Don't make it all about money.  This is the season for giving, so make it about helping others in your community.  It will pay dividends in a sense of personal accomplishment and karma.
