We've talked before about the importance of creating online brand consistency for your business. So much of this revolves around the use of consistent colors, graphics, and imagery. But how do you decide your username and vanity url for various social media outlets? It turns out, there's a helpful online tool for brand consistency.
The tool is called NameChk (www.namechk.com). This website allows you to input a desired username for your business (ie: partycentersoftware). The results show which social media sites have that username available, and which sites don't. This tool also checks to see if your desired vanity url is available. For those that don't know, a vanity url is what appears after the main website domain. As an example, our vanity url for Facebook is www.facebook.com/partycentersoftware. The "partycentersoftware" is our vanity url. It's an easy way to identify your brand's page, and it's much easier to remember than a string of random numbers and letters.
NameChk crawls a huge number of social media sites, including Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, LinkedIn, foursquare, and more. This tool is especially helpful for new business owners that are starting to create their online accounts, but it can also be valuable to existing operators who are looking at expanding into new online platforms.
