3 Tips for Roller Skating Rinks to Increase Revenue

In this article, we share three tips for roller skating rinks to increase revenue.

Are you looking for ways to increase revenue at your roller skating rink?

Well, of course you are!

We’re glad you landed here because we’re all about finding opportunities to increase revenue and customer satisfaction.

In fact, roller skating rinks have a very distinct advantage over some of the biggest family entertainment centers around—even those with the newest technology. What’s the advantage? NOSTALGIA!

With popular forms of entertainment constantly changing, parents are always looking for ways to share a little piece of their own childhood with their kids.

And what better way to do this than by taking them to a roller skating rink?

3 Tips to Increase Revenue at Your Roller Skating Rink

Keep in mind that you have a facility that can cater to ALL age groups, so there are countless opportunities to increase revenue at this type of FEC. If you own or operate a skating rink, here are 3 tips for increasing revenue at your facility.

Tip to Increasing Revenue #1: Host an Open House

A great way to increase roller skating rink revenue is to host an Open House, preferably right before your busy season!

By doing this, you’ll not only be able to introduce yourself to those who may not be familiar with your business yet, but you’ll also be able to share everything your rink has to offer such as the opportunity for guests to book birthday parties, corporate events, and fundraisers. Your attendees will likely decide to stay a bit longer and put on a pair of skates while they’re there, too! It’s a win-win!

Be sure to have your party room(s) or area(s) in tip-top shape for your Open House. Have flyers with specials available to anyone that books an event while at the Open House too. This will help you to end the event with a guaranteed increase in revenue at your roller skating rink in the near future.

And don’t forget the add-ons! While it is important to have fantastic party packages, don’t forget that additional items beyond that party are what will help you increase revenue. Offering additional food items, t-shirts, goodie bags, trophies, or other take-home items will help increase the bottom line.

Tip to Increasing Revenue #2: Run Events and Offer Discounts During Your Slow Season

Run a report in your facility management software to determine what days of the week as well as what seasons are slowest at your rink.

If your facility tends to have slower foot traffic during the summer months (as many family entertainment centers do), think about what you can do to change that pattern!

Roller skating rinks are wonderful places to engage in family fun during the summer months as you offer something very special on a scorching hot day: air conditioning! Consider offering special pricing during the summer as a way to motivate more folks in your community to come to visit.

Next, it’s time to get creative. What day of the week seems to be your slowest?

Host a themed skate night such as a 70’s Disco Party on that day! Encourage guests to dress up, bring their kids, and invite their friends for a fun night out during the week.

Or, if you want to appeal to the tween and teen group, consider a “TikTok” revolution night where kids are encouraged to come to snap some TikTok footage. You might consider inviting local influencers and maybe even a skating professional who can organize a flash mob for your facility!

Not only will the additional people help you increase revenue, but you’ll snag some amazing footage to use for marketing! Don’t forget to have signage up with clear links to all your social media pages. You might even consider incentivizing customers for tagging your facility or using a specific hashtag. A simple prize can go a long way!

Use your online store to sell tickets ahead of time, costume items, and other themed items as a way to increase revenue.

Tip to Increasing Revenue #3: Use Data to Fill the Gaps

Using your facility management software, run a report to determine which demographics the people who frequent your facility the most fall in. What age group visits your roller skating rink the most? What genders?

Using data is a great way to see where there are opportunities for improvement—and where you might tap into some additional revenue. If you don’t currently have this type of data or a way to capture data, grab a copy of our 2020 Online Booking Study.

Another great idea is to host these events during a popular eating time such as lunch or dinner if your roller skating rink offers food.

Get Creative!

When it comes to increasing revenue at your roller skating rink—what haven’t you tried? Get creative!

Better yet, run a survey! Ask your community what kind of events they would like to see hosted at your rink. What improvements and/or additions you could make to your facility that would entice more customers to walk through your doors and increase your revenue?

Use social media to gather feedback too! Be sure that you’re active on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, and share fun stories of people having fun at your rink. Use Instagram Stories to survey people and ask questions that will help you to improve.
